A lot was going on in all of these issues XD Just, A LOT. And I think this was my first issue of Doctor Who Magazine. I really did try to read everything in each issue, but I forgot that this really was a proper magazine with almost every page actual relevant information unlike American magazines with ads all over. I still subscribe to it via my LCS but I’ve yet to be caught up on actually reading them. Gahhh!! One day perhaps. Oh wait, also, that Ultimates issue is the first issue of Ultimates^2. The second run of this team and story and I love it. XD
The next OML cover of that style. Had to get Thanos’ first issue, I can’t actually remember what the plot of that run was, but I know it led to another run that introduced King Thanos in a possible future and that introduced Cosmic Ghost Rider. Cosmic Ghost Rider is nuts. XD
Other than all the Steve Rogers drama that was going on, the big part of this week’s issues was that Riri Williams got her own title! I love that cover and I love that design. She resigned her suit that she made in her garage (which resembled Tony’s Mark 1) in that Mark 2. This designed it with help for a Tony AI. Though her Mark 3 is quite fantastic too. Also this was the first time we got the name Ironheart.
Of course after seeing my tweet in issue 2, I got all the variants I could find for that issue. I can’t actually remember if I went back to the store to buy these or I found them online, since this image is from a “mail day” post I made, but eh. And I only just realized now that the last variant at the end is similar to the X-Men animated series opening end sequence which is replicated in that X-Men ’92 volume cover on the bottom left.
So, here we are! I had just finished enjoying issue 2 of Champions when I get to the last page which showed the cover for the next issue and showed tweets of people who had emailed their tweet to that Marvel email at the bottom of the page in issue 1 with the “Ok To Print” message and had been chosen. And what do I see? My tweet! XD I was surprised, I was joyful, I was going a bit nuts haha. Yeah, it’s only a simple tweet showing my excitement for Champions and more of Kamala’s journey, but it was truly amazing to have happened. I hadn’t even remembered that I’d sent the email. I still am flabbergasted that my words ended up in a comic.
Alrighty, this was a lot. Up top is one of the MCU guidebook comics that used to be printed to go alongside the movies and shows (produced by Marvel Television). They would sum up a movie or season. They were pretty great to have. I have them all, naturally. Oh, I forgot to say that this era of Marvel comics was the Marvel Now! 2.0 era. 1.0 led up to the Secret Wars event and this era led up to and included the Civil War II event. This was also the beginning of Thor’s journey after becoming unworthy of Mjölnir at the end of the Original Sin event when something was whispered to him and the hammer dropped on the moon without Thor being able to move it. That was a crazy time. Issue 2 of Champions is extremely important to me, you’ll see why in the next post XD. And of course, I was ecstatic to get this free Doctor Strange movie mini-poster too!
Infamous Iron Man was an interesting run as it was Doctor Doom taking on the Iron Man mantle and attempting to be a hero. That Flash cover is an homage to the classic cover of Barry and Jay (the Golden Age Flash) meeting for the first time. This cover has both Wally and Wallace meeting for the first time as this was after both continuities merged as Wally (the classic Wally West) had recently come back into continuity (it’s a WHOLE thing). And that last issue I think I may have gotten for the cover since I think I was getting the volumes for The Ultimates at that point. But, that is an amazing cover, and that run (and the one that followed it) is still my favorite run of comics ever. It supersedes other favorite characters and titles. This iteration of The Ultimates went full cosmic and my favorite aspect of Marvel comics is it’s cosmic side.
These Old Man Logan covers are more issues that I got for the covers, and I got that Vader comic because it was the end of that run (I had been getting the volumes of it rather than issues).
This was a great day because Champions #1 came out! This team of young heroes has grow and changed so much since this issue came out. Since Kamala Khan was on this team ad she is my favorite character, of course I had to forever subscribe to it! Something amazing even came of it soon after. It still brings me joy. The Death of X mini event was a quite the info-drop that would lead to the Inhumans vs X-Men event later on. And this was also the day that Jessica Jones got a new run! This coming off of the popularity of the amazing season one of the show on Netflix a year before. I think at this point I had her original run and loved it, so I was super excited for this run. You can see that as I got one of each of the variant covers that my store had, including one that was a Champions old team and new team cover. That first cover on the left is the A Cover (Main cover) and it was by the same artist who did the covers for the original Maxi series Alias (the name of Jessica’s comic as written by Brian Michael Bendis).
Speaking of BMB, 11 days later I had quite the surprise when both Bendis and Krysten Ritter (The actress who portrayed Jessica Jones) liked my tweet. I forgot about this as I typed this post earlier otherwise I would have posted it two posts after this one, but I remembered only after I’d already posted a few posts after this one, hence why I’m posting the screenshots on this post. That was pretty epic.
Similar to my reasoning for getting into Deathstroke comics, when I saw that Raven was getting her own comic for the first time, I had to add it to my subscription list. Even now I remember that run and the one that followed it. They were slightly different takes on Raven, but I enjoyed each run.
