Oh that’s right, that X-Men Green issue was supposed to have come out months ago, so I read it before this week’s issues and last week’s issues. It was unexpected but I loved it! I’ve been enjoying Catwoman’s current arc. Also Nightwing’s. This Black Adam run is interesting so far. two more Dark Crisis tie-ins. Captain Marvel without Carol there has been funky. Stephen returns! Ish. Daredevil 650 dropped this week. I can’ wait to read it, it’s funny being a big legacy number issue right after issue 1 of a new run. Wooo! Finally! I’ve been waiting for this one-shot!! Avengers 1,000,000 BC!!!!! I really liked the introduction of these characters interacting with each other that I think first happened in Marvel Legacy. I still wonder if they’ll ever have a title all their own. There’s the final issue of this Hulk and Thor 60th Anniversary crossover event. The next issue of Edge of the Spider-verse, which seems to be ramping up to a dramatic spider-event. The last Judgement Day issue I read shocked me with what Uranos got done in an hour. I’m wondering what insanity is waiting for me in last week’s and this week’s issues. And here’s the next Ms. Marvel team-up issue with Moon Knight.
This is the next Harley 30th Anniversary homage issue. This one pays tribute to Detective Comics #359, the original debut of Batgirl, Barbara Gordon.
This A cover of this issue is reminiscent of the old Star Wars EU novel covers from the Fate of the Jedi books. It’s not the same style, but it reminded me enough of the covers that I wanted to get this.
A 90’s X-Men yearbook style variant? Of course I’d have to snag this. DUH!
Something about this cover just drew me to it. Not sure if it’s this particular shade of blue or what, but I like this.
Similar to Kamala and Darkseid and Celestials, Jean as the Phoenix can be a variant I keep an eye out for. But I don’t always get it. It has to really catch my eye. This one did.
And of course the variants for this team-up run. I assume all of these will have a Momoko variant, and I’m happy about that.
I was a bit late posting this since I had an emergency trip out of state for a funeral, but posting now. While on the trip I only got to reading a few issues, so I can only hint at those for foreknowledge.
Batman Urban Legends continues with various tales. Batgirls opened up the mystery about the murders. I’ll be excited to read SOK. With Wonder Woman, I will be happy when this arc is over, haha, Cizko is kind of a lot for me. As I said late time, I’m excited for this new arc of Harley to start, even though it’s the last arc of this run or the title. This is the Nubia limited series penultimate issue. And this is Naomi’s last issue. I’m unsure where Naomi goes from here, I assume since the show got unjustifiably cancelled on the CW that this could be a reason they don’t do much more with her. Though I think I’ve mentioned how the continuity between her title and the Justice League title don’t really make sense. This second run seems to also take place right after she’s joined the JL but she’d been on the JL team for ten’s of issues at that point so this really didn’t make sense. But eh, I enjoy her character. I’m happy to get another (the last) part of the DCeased trilogy of titles so we can see how this apocalyptic story ends. Dark Crisis continues. I think this is the pentultimate issue of Power Rangers (I said for Mighty Mophin that 22 was the last there too, but they might end on 23 issues, I’m not sure).
This Han and Lando issue was fun, it had a couple reveals and drama and such. This Avengers issue is the last one before the next one that connects with the crossover event (that’s already started), Judgement Day. Captain Carter got out of some trouble. Another Capt issue I can’t read. I hope to read all these (including the following week) and then start all the Capt issues I’m behind on. This Thor issue is the next one from the pile I’m going to read after typing these posts. I’m intrigued by what’s happening in Spider-Man, I still need them to tell us what happened!! And Judgement Day continues. The next issues in these Marvel Team-Ups-esk Moon Girl issues was fun. And speaking of that type of book, Kamala got her own of these team-up one-shot runs with the next one in the next post. And a Gwen Stacy special that I think is set in the past but it’s not a reprinting of old stories, but I’m not sure. I just know it’s modern art.
Variants to follow.
Here is the next homage cover for Harley’s 30th Anniversary. This one is based on Detective Comics #38, the first appearance of Robin.
The first variant is the first of connecting variants for this story and it’s inspired by Jim Lee’s art. I’m unsure whether Dan Mora based this on an existing Jim Lee work (like the X-Men 1 folded cover from the 90’s, which I feel like this is what it’s referring to), or just in the same style as Jim Lee. Either way, I can’t wait to get the other covers in the coming months (the whole image is fantastic!)!! I didn’t actually expect this variant, but I said yes to is anyway and I’m glad I did since it’s one of those fancy gloss covers.
Just another fun spiderverse cover.
I saw this in the Marvel Previews a while ago and decided I had to get two copies when it came out. I just love how this cover looks. The design is gorgeous! I love images within images.
This is one of those times where if certain characters are on a cover, I have to get them. For example, covers with Kamala or Darkseid. In this case, if there are covers with Celestials on them, I gotta get them. And when there’s an event including Celestials well, there we go. Plus it just looks amazing!
This issue also got a window shade variant and I liked the creativity with this one compared with the other ones.
As I said, covers with Kamala! Though I know I do have to go farther back to when she first debuted because I didn’t know I was going to love her and want variants with her on them, so I certainly have a ways to go for getting variants from her original run and the Champions original run. That will probably take a long time. But yeah, here are the variants for this first team-up issue.
Had to put both the Momoko covers together. It’s nice that (like the A Cover) this Ms. Marvel variant has all the main characters that Kamala will be teaming up with in these issues on it. And the Gwen Stacy cover gives off that old-school Barbie/fashion magazine vibe.
So many comics! I had to completely clear the bed to get them all in the photo. This was because there were so many variants that week.
Elle(s) seemed like a fun comic (by Ablaze), so I decided to try it out. The normal MTG run continued. Always happy to get more Sweet Paprika. I think this was the last Mighty Morphin issue before the new run starts. Though I’m not sure what’s going to happen beyond the 100th issue of uh, either Power Rangers or Mighty Morphin? I’m not sure. Since I’m so behind on those, I try to avoid news about them. We’re getting a new Edge of the Spider-verse run that I think is leading up to some event. Judgement Day continues. And Peach Momoko’s new comic, set in the marvel universe she created in Demon Days, started, hence all those variants. Harley is starting a new arc which I’m excited for. It may be the last arc of this run, I can’t remember. Though the 30th Anniversary special for her is coming soon. Ivy’s comic continues. And Mary Marvel got her own title, which I think is a first. Flashpoint Beyond had its penultimate issue. Dark Crisis continues. The next Black Adam tie-in issue dropped. The next issue of the Aquaman Black Label story also arrived. and we got an issue of SWI.
So many variants to follow. There might be a movie reaction/review this week, but I’m not sure since it’s an anime movie and I probably won’t be feel the need to talk about it here.
I feel like there was a reason for me getting this variant for Ghost Rider, but I can’t remember what it was XD I mean I like the cover, but I can’t quite remember why I chose to get it. This EotSV variant is just another connecting cover situation.
I got another copy of the A cover of this issue because it’s gorgeous. I love the colors and the style and I feel like I’m going to like this arc.
Since it’s Harley’s 30th, they are starting to do these homage variants and y’all know I love homage covers. So I’m going to get all of these. This cover pays tribute to the original cover of 1940’s Batman #1.
I’ve been loving all the variants coming from this Ivy run, but sometimes the A cover hits hard too. I adore this cover. I love the contrast between the shadow and light/black and white. It just stands out visually so much. And of course it’s emotional too since Pamela is going through a lot in the story.
And of course here’s another Artgerm cover. I hope I get to meet him at a convention one day. Though picking what to have him sign will be stupidly impossible.
I also enjoy photo-realistic covers sometimes too. This one just is so bright and hopeful and just lovely.
Here’s another character deign variant. I love getting these when I can since many of them have been chosen to be incentive covers which are troublesome to get for small stores like mine. Plus this is a new legacy character! I wasn’t sure but I looked it up. There are a couple options for who’s under the Red Canary mask. I wonder who.
And here are the Demon Wars covers. Though funnily enough, the A cover was delayed. So that will be in another late issues post. I love these though whenever Peach Momoko does a new comic, I feel the need to get all variants. So, my wallet will hate me. But the covers for these are always just amazing.
I put that cover last because it’s another homage cover referencing the style of the Civil War event comic covers.
Ok, so I was very late getting to these issues since I had to wait 5 days after I would have normally gotten them to get them. So I had to do my best to quickly read through the previous pile from post-SDCC. I didn’t do too well since I had a few more to get through by the time I got these (and the next week’s) comics. And I currently haven’t finished this pile and I’m getting new comics on Thursday (August 18th).
I can talk about some of these since I’ve read some of them. So, the tenses will be back and forth. The MTG issue was a bit of a finale, a lot happened and I’m continually excited for more. Task Force Z had a fun reveal. This was the end of this Harley arc. Robin had a bit of a reveal itself while it’s closing in on its final issues. Deathstroke Year One continued. That Detective Comics issue is one I’m waiting on another copy for since I love the over, oh and the story is interesting too, haha. Action Comics keeps building on the rebellion against Mongul. I’m excited to get to this Young Justice tie-in to the animated series (streaming on HBOMax). I can’t remember if this is supposed to be after season 3 or during it or what. Captain America I still have to read a volume and a special before I can start either of these Captain America runs. Hopefully I get to them soon so I can actually read these. Venom is literally the next issues I’m going to read later today, but this whole arc has been crazy, I love it! Strange I’ve not gotten to yet, but again, I’ve enjoyed this arc with Clea. Iron Cat was a bit of present day with a touch of backstory. This Variants issue I’ve not gotten to yet. I’m excited to start this new Ant-Man run! Amazing Spider-Man has officially reached 900 issues!!! It’ll probably be around 4 years till we get to ASM #1000, and that will be wonderful. That’s the last issue I’ll read as part of this week. And this Obi-Wan issue was brutal in that he was remembering a battle during The Clone Wars that didn’t go well.
Variant and cool cover to follow. Also, the next post will have a lot of images XD
This A cover of Strange has such great color contrast that I had to get it. I love the way that the yellow and red stand out.
And this is the first of the connecting covers for the few issues. I enjoy connecting covers. Though I always have to be careful not to get too many since it’s difficult to display them.
SDCC has me a bit delayed as I mentioned in the SDCC post. So, this week (August 4th) I should have picked up comics but I’m going to get the issues for those previous two weeks (July 27 and August 3rd) on August 8th instead.
This Black Adam run has been interesting, I wonder if any of it was used for the movie or vice-versa. Selina is heading back to Gotham. The next JL vs LSH finally dropped. More from Dark Crisis. Han and Chewie take on Krrsantan. Here are issue 25 for both Star Wars and Vader. I’m very excited to get to those. Gwenverse continues and so does Miles’ multiversal adventure (Though I don’t think there will be a crossover between them even though I thought they had them both in the multiverse a the same time on purpose, but apparently nope). Also there are the Avengers multiversal events happening. This is the last issue of this run of Maestro and the end of this trilogy of the character that all led up to the original Future Imperfect comics. The new run of Shang-Chi started. Defenders Beyond started. The Marvels came an end. And Judgement Day has begun!
Great variants to follow!
Just a fun Flash variant ^__^
I liked this variant for Judgement Day since it’s like everything that will happen is erupting out of Krakoa. Noto always has nice covers, and I like America Chavez of course. And I cn’t say no to an Ahsoka cover.
Another gorgeous Frison cover for Catwoman. The colors and shading is lovely.
Happy for this Artgerm variant obviously.
This is my favorite cover of the week. I mean I saw it online or in the previews and I was oh my god it’s like a painting. Was so happy that my store had it. I might actually get this graded. Either that or just keep it in a comic display case.
Logan and Wade’s adventured continues. Carol is still missing. Peggy is wanted. There’s still more to learn about what’s happening with Frank and The Hand. This new Savage Avengers team is having quite the time. I’m excited to start this new run of Daredevil with Elektra and Matt both deviling. I think the FF event is almost over? And it’s finally time for the second Hellfire Gala!! I’m wondering what big reveals (besides the new X-Men team) will be revealed. And we got the issue before Judgement Day starts, I’m also excited for that event. This was a big week since the DC character Dreamer (the amazing trans heroine that was created for the CW’s Supergirl series, and ancestor of Dream Girl, one of the Legionaries of the Legion of Super Heroes) appeared for the first time in main continuity!! So I’m very happy about that. Naomi has her penultimate issues. Dark Crisis continues and a new Rogues Black Label issue.
Variants to follow
I got this The Mandalorian #1 cover since it has Vi Morandi on it. She’s a great character that debuted in the Phasma novel but was then made to be a character at Galaxy’s Edge at the Disney Parks. This is one of the variant covers for Superman: SOK with Dreamer on it, I eed to look for the other one and hopefully get another copy of the A cover.
I just love this cover, and not just for Emma Frost being there as she is. Mainly I like it for the shades of red. I just love the way it’s being drawn and colored. I also saw the other variants of this cover with different colors at SDCC from the artist himself, and would have gotten them all if I could have. I think they were pink, blue, black and white sheets respectively.
Here’s another one of these window shade variants I like.
Another glorious Artgerm variant!! ^_^ If there were a foil variant of this cover or a metal print of this, I’d get one.
Oh look, another amazing collage variant cover! I had to get this. I wasn’t actually sure my store would have this but I was pleasantly surprised. I like how all the images in the Celestial are only Celestials.
So I got back on July 27th and it’s August 3rd now, but it’s taken a bit for me to catch up on things that I couldn’t watch or do while I was gone for that week. And I’m still not even all caught up.
SDCC was as amazing as it was last time (2019) and I loved seeing my couple of friends that I hadn’t seen since then again. And I met a few artists and a couple podcast hosts I watch and an actor or two. The convention is cast and the experience is like nothing else. Even if you’ve been to a convention before, there’s nothing like SDCC.
This year I went to panels instead of spending most of my time on the exhibit hall floor like I did in 2019. It was also nice to not be carrying a bunch of boxes and stuff like last time since I didn’t pick up any exclusive figures or anything. There were a few free posters and smaller merch that I got, but I kept it light this time.
I also got into Hall H on Saturday again which was as spectacular as ever. I love being in that room on the Saturday of the con. It’s just the most intense and emotional and wonderful and joyful bliss there is. I saw Marvel trailers that y’all wont ever see (like the public will get normal trailer cuts but not what we saw in there specifically) and stuff that I can’t wait to see again in the future.
I also went to the Comic-Con Museum where they had the Beyond Amazing Spider-Man exhibition. It was pretty cool to walk through. I’d suggest it if you love Spidey or you only like him.
I’m glad to be home though XD. Just gotta catch up on everything I missed. And now to post the comics I got when I got back from July 13th and July 20th. Oh and I saw Thor: Love and Thunder again yesterday with one of my best friends, still enjoyed it!
