September 18, 2024

Oh yeah, last weekend I was at Baltimore Comic Con and got to meet a few comic book artists and writers! It was great!

Also, pssst, this is post 616! (IYKYK)

Another two weeks of massive piles of comics. My wallet hates me very much! Absolute Power continued. Clark and Zatanna had an adventure. We got a multiversal team-up of WB owned characters in the Multiversus miniseries. Infinity Watch continued. Spirits of Vengeance got a new miniseries. Hyperion stops by the Avengers. Darth Vader’s run ended with this last 50th issue before the next runs of Star Wars titles starts. Venom War continued. Deathlok got a special commemorating his 50th anniversary (though J. August Richards didn’t get an AOS variant cover, and I think that’s ridiculous.) And Dazzler got a new run.

Variants for this Catwoman issue. Wonderful as always!

It’s so cool that I can say that I’ve now met Rose Besch! She was a delight and I got some issues signed and sent off t be slabbed. I really like this cover of these three.

Superboy got a one-shot special as part of Absolute Power and this was my favorite variant of the issue. Foils are fun!

These are just gorgeous Zatanna covers. I mean look at them! Sweeney Boo and W. Scott Forbes respectively did amazing jobs! And of course Nicola Scott doing these legacy covers are wonderful.

I’m still not sure If I want these in their artist collections or character covers for Zatanna.

More Nicola Scott brilliance. And Cassie looking great by Artgerm.

Every single Artgerm is amazing.

I just really enjoyed seeing all these characters on one cover. Look at them all!

I’m not sure I’ll keep getting these covers, but for now, I enjoy them. And it was nice to see Rose on a cover from this universe.

I don’t get World’s Finest often, but sometimes they bring it on the covers game.

The main cover having Eclipso on it looking so powerful was great to see! And I always enjoy seeing Jessica Cruz on a cover, especially when it’s a Hispanic Heritage Month cover!

Derrick Chew did a glorious job on this Kushala cover! Sometimes I think his work is Artgerm, haha.

The next Ultimate X-Men covers! Though, not all of them this time, I’ll have to search for the other two online. That last Momoko one in this image is just amazing. I think it may even be one of my top Momoko covers, and that’s saying a lot. I may have to get another copy of it to get slabbed.

Even though the main cover isn’t a connecting cover with Star Wars 50, I still will display them together. I’m still very behind, but can’t wait to get to the end of this run.

The Dazzler covers! There were other covers too, but I liked these the best.

I really love this foil cover by Kaare Andrews. It gives off Jim Lee vibes. And we got a window shades cover! And of course like some of the X-titles, a blank variant.

Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story (September 21 and 24, 2024)

September 24, 2024

That was such an amazing feature to watch. As I said before in my social media posts, I knew bits and pieces of what happened to him, but never most of these other things I learned today.

I loved seeing so much footage from home movies throughout this. It went back and forth from before to after the spinal accident as it went.

He was such a wonderful person in life. And even though he would say he wasn’t that person he played in his role as Clark/Superman, he certainly has been a figurative hero and a literal hero to billions of people around the world and will do so you decades and centuries beyond now, both thanks to his work as an actor and an activist (both before and free the accident). And his family will also continue to be a huge part in that activism as they continue that aspect of his legacy.

I still think he has been the best portrayal of Clark Kent/Superman that we’ve had in live-action on-screen. Tom Welling did a great job as Clark and a good job in one episode as Superman in Smallville. Tyler Hoechlin has been doing a great job as both roles on the CW during the past few years too. Henry Cavill just had the bad luck of bad writing and barely any character development or screen time to really tans out as either role. I believe he would have been amazing with the correct version of those things. And we’ll have to see next year what David Corenswet will bring to the icon role.

I am so grateful that Christopher Reeve was cast in the role and for him as a person to exist. He will forever be remembered for so many aspects of his life, and we love him for so many of them.

Happy 72nd Birthday, and thank you for so much. ❤️💙💛

I guess things are looking up for Billy Batson. While things aren’t going great in Absolute Power. Primer’s second run got it’s last issue. Leonardo got Dark Leo special. Peter and Tombstone have words. The Venom War rages on. This Star Wars run (taking place between Episodes V and VI) has come to it’s end with this 50th issue. The next Star Wars runs (or at least some specials) will take place after episode VI in the lead-up to the Battle of Jakku. The Avengers got another run on Avengers Assemble. Wolverine got a new run in the new X-Men era. and DSTLRY gave us new title called Time Waits, and a cover gallery for Somna.

I got this cover because it’s looks like a nice precursor of the Batman Beyond batsuit, even though I know it’s a Nightwing suit.

Fun covers all around! Though I didn’t get that first variant because of Godzilla, I got it for Galactus, Godzilla was just an added bonus.

Love these Disney/Marvel covers as you know, and the Meinerding covers!

Love these! Though the min cover of this and Vader 50 aren’t connecting, I will still like them together when I get Vader 50. And of course the connecting cover for them both looks great.

Such fantastic Wolverine covers!

Love the negative space cover so much!

September 4, 2024

This is the 25th issue of Poison Ivy, the title that was originally a 6 issue miniseries. It’s so wonderful that G. Willow Wilson’s run has gone this long. Plastic Man got a new miniseries. Absolute Power continues. Trinity got a special one-shot. It’s Farscape’s 25th Anniversary, so it got a reprint of the first comic of the franchise I think, and then a one-shot anniversary special. The next Disney/Marvel What If title dropped featuring Donald Duck. I’m excited to get to Scarlet Witch! Acolyte’s Kelnacca got a one-shot special. We got a new X-title called Exceptional X-Men, which should be a dramatic title. Infinity Watch and Venom War continue.

Such a lovely Takara cover for Poison Ivy! Carmine Di Giandomenico did and amazing job with this Penguin cover! Some collages work really well. Ricardo López Ortiz did this GLORIOUS job on this Superman cover. This is paying homage to Akira Toriyama after his passing. It’s based on the famous Dragon Ball Z volume 26 manga cover. The next issue is also similarly paying homage. Peach Momoko did a great job with Donald as Thor. I didn’t initially intend on getting the Ultimates cover, but it really is creepy and cool with Maker being Doom’s cloak. And another Momoko cover which is also creepy and wonderful.

Here, again, is another proper homage cover. It looks so good! This is based on Sub-Mariner 32 from 1949 from Timely Comics (future Marvel).

Ejikure did a great job with Cassandra Cain. And I’m excited for Nicola Scott’s legacy covers!

So much going on on these covers! Love it!

I mean look at this! Just fantastic cover by Mikel Janin.

The next Absolute Power covers.

It’s been a while since I’ve gotten a Carla Cohen cover. I love her art!

Farscape is such an amazing series. I wish we’d gotten more seasons of the show. I can’t believe it’s been 25 years!

Just great covers!

Dauterman is just doing a brilliant job with these main covers. The colors on this cover is gorgeous. And I like this variant because the girl is wearing a Ms. Marvel shirt, it’s a Coca-Cola variant cover that’s part of a set.

These are both such amazing covers! This Alex Ross cover is spectacular. I can’t wait for all these Meinerding covers!

I mean look at this. LOOK! Asgard looks perfect.

So many wonderful covers!

This first one was an incentive cover, it’s just really nice. This Besch cover is wonderful. And the last one is just a nice cover I liked.

August 2024 Late Issues 2

Just another copy of that Deadpool issue for potential reasons. That variant for the 85th anniversary, and this White Boat variant.

Even though they do have the cover gallery issues coming out, I think the cover art books need to changed to landscape length books.

I didn’t realize it was more than just Raphael’s mask pin from that time before. I was happy to see that we may get all four of them.

August 28, 2024

SO MANY ISSUES. If there had been literally one more, I wouldn’t have been able to fit it on the bed.

Just because of that Mr. Freeze cover, I want to get to that story. I always like seeing the Flash family in an issue. This is the last issue of Gotham City Sirens. This is Zatanna’s penultimate issue. Absolute Power continues. Zero Hour got a 30th Anniversary special! Moon Knight got a new miniseries. Chasm got a new title featuring Kaine. I wonder what that Fantastic Four issue is about for it to have so many character on it. Amazing Spider-Man got to its 950th issue! Ahsoka got its second issue. We got some more From the Ashes mutant titles. Marvel had its 85th Anniversary special. We got another SWI issue. And two more DSTLRY issues dropped.

I love this main cover. Such an amazing Mr. Freeze cover. I’m probably very influenced by Sub-Zero. And I liked this other cover as it’s similar to a previous cover with him starring at the city.

This is such a great The Batman cover to celebrate Batman’s 85th Anniversary. This Flash cover is just cool. And literally what I liked about this Power Girl is that axe.

I love all these Zatanna covers!

I got the main cover because Red Canary is on there on the top left. Yup, that’s it. And I love that Clarke cover.

Ok, so I haven’t read the Zero Hour event yet, though I have the 20th anniversary collected edition for it that I need to read. These are just such great coves! And the main cover is a wraparound.

I love seeing all these characters! I think there are other tie-in’s to this event that aren’t in the collected edition but I may be wrong.

I’m pretty sure that this Cheetara cover is paying homage to the 1981 cover for Uncanny X-Men 101. Love it! Derrick Chew did a brilliant job with this Moon Knight cover! I didn’t get this Fantastic Four cover because it’s Alex Ross, I got it because of all the characters in the background. Chew also gave us a great Laura cover for NYX.

And again, all homage covers should have the issues they’re paying homage to on the back of them like this! I love them!

Just so many amazing Ahsoka cover. Taurin Clarke did a great job at that main cover. I love the others a lot too!

Another Scott Campbell cover. And another homage cover.

See? It’s a good idea. I’ve seen other covers paying homage to this cover and I’ve never seen the actual cover it’s referring to.

Again, all amazing covers for Ultimate X-Men. I still have (all but one) all the covers for all the issues thus far.

I love these 85th Anniversary covers! And not just because Kamala is on them. The colors and characters and just everything! I can’t wait to get to this issue!

Just so great! Luciano Vecchio did a great job with this cover! I love it! And yes, Kamala being in the center is so wonderful.

August 21, 2024

I’m excited to see Trigon in Titans. Absolute Power continues. Jenny Sparks got her first solo title, I don’t know anything about this Wildstorm character, so I was intrigued to see what this was. Thor got a Giant-size issue. Logan got a new miniseries that has a mature version of the issue for blood and such. Ghost Rider Final Vengeance had its final issue. Since I know what’s happening in Deadpool next, I’m excited to get this issue of Deadpool. Venom War rages on. I’m extremely excited to get to this issue of Scarlet Witch for this return of this character, Lore. I didn’t know about her till this cover was revealed by Russell Dauterman. That bottom row is almost just all phoenix fire.

I love getting Christian Ward covers because they are always vast and epic, I liked this one because all that was in that butterfly. Mark Spears did an amazing job portraying John Stewart, I thought it was an Alex Ross cover! Always happy to see a Stjepan Šejić cover, he did a great job with Zatanna. Guillem March made a wonderful swimsuit variant for Diana. I loved the shading and colors and simplicity of it all.. I got that World’s Finest cover by Dan Mora just for that Trinity design. When I saw the Dogpool variant I just had to get it. You understand. And the Ahsoka cover is a non-foil variant of the first issue via a second printing.

I got these specifically because of how Raven looks on each of them, The other Titans look great too, but I love Raven!

These same artists for these variants for this miniseries. Scott Forbes and Jeehyung Lee did a great job with these first two. And of course that last one is for my friend. I’m excited to present the gift!

I thought I only wanted the Catwoman one last issue, but I forgot I also wanted this one. Glorious.

Another Montes Foil cover!

Galloway doing a great job with this grocery store cover. Happy to see two of my favorite artists both doing variants on one issue.

Such a great foil cover from Nakayama! Love it! And look at that Artgerm cover!

Ok. LOOK AT THAT DAUTERMAN COVER. LOOK AT IT. It’s probably one of my favorite Dauterman covers he’s done, and I really love so many of his covers. And I wasn’t sure there were many Dazzler themed covers I wanted to get, but this was certainly one of them. I love the use of the disco balls as her energy gathering powers.

Just look at these. All the orange and yellow. Just amazing.

Tran Nguyen, Derrick Chew and Nicoletta Baldari all did AMAZING jobs with these covers. Marvel really said to the artists who’re doing covers for this title, hey, obliterate our eyes with beauty.

August 2024 Late Issues

Two late main covers, a couple main covers that I wanted another copy of, and late variants.

I really liked this design with Vulture as Miles lenses. And I totally forgot that Mirka Andolfo had a variant out last week, I got the main cover and realized I’d forgotten it after I’d gotten home. Got another of the main cover for Werewolf by Night, I realized that this run has main covers all by Gist, so I’ll be getting two of them all, haha. And of course I had to get this Nakayama variant!

This is a spoiler cover I think, hence the covering and poly-bag. but I got this because Dark Spectre is on the cover. The last time I got a cover with him on it I might have said this, but just in case I didn’t, when Maligore appeared on screen in the PR: Turbo movie, I loved his character design, and then when we got to see Dark Spectre in PR in Space, I was both confused but happy to see that design again.

August 14, 2024

I’m so excited to get to Gail’s AC run! The Sirens continue. Primer continues. We got the next DW comic issue. Jonny Quest got a new run of comics. Iron Fist got a 50th Anniversary special. I think this is the penultimate issue of this Moon Knight run, but there’s a new one right afterwards. This is the penultimate issue of this Vader run. Thor faces Zeus again in this 775th issue. Werewolf By Night got a new run, and it’s a Red Band run! The Venom War rages on. This is the final issue of this run of She-Hulk. Spider Society got a run focusing on it. X-Men continues and X-Factor got a new run in this new era.

Even though we don’t have any action figures of characters from recent Doctor Who episodes, we have comics! Ah I forgot to take a photo of the back of that homage variant, it’s one of the ones that has the cover of the issue it’s paying homage to on the back. I love this Lady Sif cover! Look at it! And here’s another homage cover paying tribute to that classic Punisher cover.

This first variant is referencing the first appearance of Sabretoth issue. And the other one is celebrating David Aja.

We have a fun Galloway cover and a Gist cover. I decided that I would get the Gist cover slabbed straight from the bag so I won’t open it ever. The CGCS people will do that I assume.

As always, I’m happy to see more Artgerm covers! And alright, it’s time to admit that these windowshade covers aren’t a short-term cover theme, so I will be posting them from now on. But for all the ones before this I will make a big post with all the ones before now in a Complete Collections post even though it won’t be complete.

Here’s another windowshades cover. And here’s the next logo variant for this new X-Men era.

At first I thought this was paying homage to a Daredevil cover from a couples years ago but nope, haha.
