Wow, that was so good.

Tom is certainly my favorite Peter and perhaps tied for my fave Spidey between him and Andrew Garfield’s Spidey. And I love the Home trilogy of Tom’s movies. But the feeling of friendly neighborhood Spider-Man has been a missing factor in those movies mainly because he was so tied to other characters and the rest of the MCU. This movie felt like a redirect.

Man I missed all these characters!

The director, Destin Daniel Cretton did such an amazing job with this movie! Which makes sense since he also directed Shang-Chai and Wonder Man. The choices when it came to the senses and action in fights and even in movement from Spidey felt different than previous movies and also perfect. I can’t wait for more from him.

Tom Holland, Zendaya and Jason Batalon did so brilliantly in this movie. Granted, Jason wasn’t in as many scenes as Zendaya, but he still was enjoyable. Zendaya was at the top of her game. The way she hits emotions is masterful. And Tom, of course, continues to get better and better as an actor. Every emotion from him hit like a hammer.

The music was fantastic as always. And even though I saw this in Dolby (a format I don’t tend to watch movies in often because I feel like the score, music, or even the sound effects can drown out the dialogue), and yet the sounds weren’t overwhelming.

The story was basically what I expected from the trailers and what little we knew beforehand about the plot. There were a couple things that surprised me that I enjoyed. There was humor, tension, scariness and joy. The general lesson to be learned was one that I think many people do need to learn and not enough of us accept that.

The returning characters were great to see again. Most were expected, a couple were a fun surprise. The new characters were strong I thought. Even if not many new people, they were important. One was a great supporting role for Spidey, they’re from the comics and it was nice to see them on-screen. Another was a good role that played off of Spidey well. And Sadie Sink’s character was very well done. She was strong and had much conviction. I was guessing where things were leading until the reveal of what was happening, it was quite the journey. The scenes between her and Tom were fantastic. John Bernthal was so enjoyable as Frank in this. He certainly felt more like Frank than in the special. The interactions between Spidey and Frank were so reminiscent of how characters interact in the comics. The banter was funny and well-written. The relationship seemed delightfully back and forth. When Frank does what he does, I felt that so strongly. Such a great scene.

It was a long movie, but I was so happy to be back with these characters that I didn’t mind at all. But also I think that the pacing was decent. Also, the visuals looked amazing!! Everything was so dynamic and they felt like comic panels!

Of course, we’ll be seeing Spidey again very soon, but I would love to see more of him in NYC. It was just nice. Though, I’m not sure if we’ll get that again, but who knows.

I just had a really great time with this movie. I can’t wait to see it again tomorrow in 3D!
