Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings (2021)

September 1, 2021 – Allllrighty! Shang-Chi. First off, a lot of action, and the choreography for the fights was brilliant!! A lot happened in the movie, the set up was done well, we get the lay of the land straight away (Certainly what should have been done with Iron Fist). The world shown to us is so expansive. We get pieces of the story that are slowly woven together as we progress.

I enjoyed all of the character also. The expected ones, and the unexpected ones…and the very unexpected ones. XD haha. Shang-Chi in the comics is a bit cocky and as well he should be, he’s the master of Kung fu. One of the best or the best hand-to-hand combat character in marvel (at least on earth). This certainly was a more relatable characterization. Katy (Awkwafina’s character) was also enjoyable. I was a little worried that she may be too much of a distraction, but she wasn’t. The humor that she gave and others worked well at every moment.

The story itself wasn’t too complicated to follow and each act seemed to flow well into the next. It was great to see a new property be brought to life in the MCU again ^__^ I’m happy they made this and hope that the success of this leads to Iron Fist and other similar characters getting their due. Can’t wait to see this again tomorrow!

Mid-credit scene: OMG Yes. XD (once you’ve seen it, talk to me about it!!)

End-credit scene: Indeed, and a little bit surprising, but not in a huge way. Good to know.

The next issues of Laila Starr, MTG and Sweet Paprika dropped, New Mutants (at this point I got started getting this story arc because it was Shadow King related and I realized Gabby was in this run with a new name, Scout), Jen had gone Red (Room) Hulk, Captain Marvel entered The Last of the Marvels arc (which recently ended. Freaking Vox), we got the next issue of Demon Days, Sinister War continued, Wiccan and Hulking got a Last Annihilation special as Planet Dormmmu’s (yes) Mindless Ones raged around the galaxy, we got Dark Ages (this was advertised and I was initially decently excited and then once I read the first issue, I realized it wasn’t the 616 universe. It’s still a cool story, but I’d thought it was canon.), at this point in the High Republic, the comics skipped forward a bit after the events of a recent HR novel, so I had to pause reading these since these issues, Midnighter got an annual issue to finish off the stories from Action Comics side-stories, this Yara issue had some fantastic art in it (I mean the cover is gorgeous too), Roy and Jade end up meeting each other in Infinite Frontier and Barry was forced to summon people to Omega Planet as Darkseid’s plans were coming to a head, Fear State began in Gotham as Scarecrow wanted to push the city beyond fear itself, and Aquaman got its 80th Anniversary issue.

Milestone’s third returning tile was Hardware, Spinning out of Future State we got I Am Batman where Jace Fox took up the mantle while Bruce was “away” during some of Fear State, Diana was on the earth where genders were swapped and her alternate self was a villain of a man, Worth teamed up with a lot of villains to get revenge on Batman and he beginnings of Task Force Z were being noticed, Flashpoint Batman met President Superman, the final issue of COTA dropped with one of the members having been revealed as an actual mutant and invited the the Hellfire Gala, this America Chavez run was at its end with her having learned the truth about herself, a new version of the Defenders started (this team of Defenders is more of a cosmic version, not unlike the cosmic oriented version of the ultimates, this team with be thrown back into each of the previous Cosmos’, i.e. like Eternity is the modern Cosmos of the Marvel universe, to find their villain. You know I love cosmic Marvel, so this was another fave title for me), Miles had a lot to think about after his Clone Saga, Electra (and others) couldn’t figure out where Bullseye was since his attacks were happening in multiple places at once, and Matt was exposed to a drug that made him more aggressive, Carol and Rhodey went on vacation (and this issue got an In-Hyuk Lee AAPI Heritage cover), Runaways ended this run with its 100th issue (Gert saw Gert, some Majesdanians arrived to take Karolina, and the last couple pages hinted at things), the High Republic got a new title, and we got the next issue of SWI.

The Suicide Squad (2021)

August 7, 2021 – The Suicide Squad!

I very much enjoyed it! XD I’m happy James Gunn got everyone he asked for to be in this movie in it. The deaths were cinematic, the utter chaos was utterly chaotic, there was heart and great humor, a good time was had.

The old and new characters were perfectly set up. I actually had forgotten for a bit there were more of them XD. Waller was scary as ever lol. The new characters were enjoyable and played off of each other quite well. The story was simple. They had a goal and that was mainly their focus. A couple side quests, but those were fun. The stuff from the trailers were mostly towards the beginning, some stuff later and close to the end, but nothing that really tells it all, as some trailers do.

I’m excited for the Peacemaker show next year and anything else that Gunn may or may not be working on also spinning out of this. We’ll see. (FYI season 1 of Peacemaker was AMAZING)

Mid-credit scene: Yes but it’s seconds after the title credit, so it’s more of a tag than a mid-credit scene. I also wasn’t surprised that it happened, but it was fun XD.

End-credit scene: Yes indeed ^__^ good stuff XD

All-in-all, I liked it a lot! And as I expected, it broke into my top 5 (7, two sets of ties) DC Films (DCEU) movie. ^__^
