Venom (3): The Last Dance (October 24, 2024)

October 27, 2024

Well. That was much better than Venom 2, as predicted.

And, I also liked this better than Venom 1. So, that makes this my favorite SSU movie, which of course isn’t saying a lot, but still.

It had its funny moments and the emotional ones too. It started fast with the main threat and that I was most excited for. I liked how they utilized it.

The acting from everyone was decent. It was a smaller cast than I thought it would be. It did bring aspects of the other two movies into this one, which was nice.

I watched it in IMAX 3D, and it was certainly an enjoyable way to watch the movie. There was t a ton of 3D scenes but the ones we got were fun to see. It went by faster than I thought it would. But I still felt the time. I liked that balance in pacing.

There were one or two surprises that I should have seen coming which I liked. I had a good time with this movie, I actually would see it again.

Mid-credit scene: Yes. I am curious about what it suggests. It seems to suggest a lot, but I’m not sure what to think. But if it does manifest, I will be extremely excited for it. though I would love it more if Marvel Studios were doing it. But who knows since Sony didn’t do a bad job with this.

End-credit scene: Yes. but it’s not that interesting. I thought there’d be more to it.

October 9, 2024

It was a small week this week thankfully, though I also had those omnibuses, so I didn’t escape the bill, haha.

We got the beginning of DC’s Absolute universe (which people are comparing to Marvel’s Ultimate universe) with Absolute Batman’s run starting. We got a Green Lantern special. We got another new High Republic Adventures miniseries. Blade got a red band miniseries. The Ewoks got a special, and I feel like it could show how they got all those helmets. Venom War continues. Phoenix takes on Gorr! Man-Thing guests on X-Force. We got a Sentinels title in this new era. And we got the next issue of Life. There will be another post after this, I made one for all the posters because I got a lot of them.

This is a great cover by Kendrick Lim! And this Absolute Batman logo foil cover is cool.

I love these Ahsoka covers! I still need to find the incentive covers for last issue and this issue.

I love the main cover for this issue! The black and the flames work well together. And of course the variant looks great too!

This Lee Ultimate Hawkeye cover is fantastic! And I loved seeing Man-Thing in the background.

We got a windowshades variant for these sentinel characters. And another logo cover.

Such great covers!

DSTLRY switched it up with these, they changed from wraparound covers to a separate covers in a flipbook format.

October 2, 2024

Multiversus continues. We got a Halloween special from DC. The “All-In” era of DC started this week. JSA ended this run (it will be back soon). Absolute Power ended with this issue. My Adventures with Superman got its next issue. To prepare the audience for it, we got a Creatures Commandos miniseries started. We got the All-In DC special which was in a very interesting format. A format that I have history with. This is the final issue of the Inquisitors. The Battle of Jakku continues. Robbie Reyes got a special. Jessica Jones visits with Gwen. We have a new Deadpool post-Deadpool’s death. Venom War continues. We got a new Storm run!

It’s been a while since the last Dan Hipp cover I think. I always enjoy them. Ejikure did an amazing job with this Batgirl cover.

Jenny Frison continues to be amazing. David Nakayama did a great job with this Batman cover.

These are such great covers! Acuña got to have the whole team on his cover. And this Sozomaika cover of Babs is amazing!

Loved all these wraparound covers!

The interesting format of this issue is that it’s a flipbook format. And that format is the same format as one of my first comics.

Such a great wraparound cover! I’m glad Darkseid is part of this event! Though I do have one gripe about Darkseid in this seemingly, but I have to read the issue properly instead of just flipping through it, but I think I’m right about it. I think DC changed something that was previously established for him in the last big event.

Another fun wraparound!

The foil version of the main cover!

This J. Gonzo cover of Robbie is wonderful! Ok, I know that this Gwen run has had Brooks doing covers, but something about this one stood out to me. Greg Land did this cool Venom War Spider-Man cover!

These are because of Sabretooth of course.

I really love this character design for Ellie’s Deadpool costume! I hope we get a Marvel Legends figure of her! And these covers are just amazing!

Every single cover of this issue was amazing. Mateus Manhanini, JeeHyun Lee, Jerome Opeña, and Lucas Werneck respectively blew it all out of the park.

The foil was done so well! Can you imagine foil on that Werneck cover??

September 2024 Late Issues 2

The next two DWM from earlier this year. Three variants and one cover gallery.

Also these omnibuses! Glad to finally have these! Blood Stain is by Stjepan Šejić’s wife Linda ^__^ they’re just amazing creators. And Hot Paprika is the actual original Sweet Paprika run but in the way it was created without censoring. So, Sweet Paprika was a watered down version of the original Hot Paprika. I love this character and this world, I’ll be happy to read all 12 issues again in the way they were meant to be experienced!

I wouldn’t normally show this cover in the gallery format until I finish the collection, but I got another copy because I forgot that Dreamer was on the cover. And these JL membership cards are promoting the All-In era that just started, also the League re-forming.

Stuff that came with issue 603. A comic and two prints.

They’re small, but nice to have.

September 25, 2024

SO MANY ISSUES. I couldn’t fit them all on the bed!

First of all, the Main Man, Lobo, got a one-shot special. I expect insanity. I’m interested in what’s going on in Harley’s book. And Raven looks to have gone full demon in Titans! I’m not sure what’s up with Flash, but it doesn’t look great. This was the surprise last issue of Outsiders, I think it was supposed to go a normal 12 issues but was cancelled at 11. Absolute Power had its final few issues before the final one next week I assume. The Mighty Morphin Power Rangers crossed over with Usagi for a one-shot. Purr Evil had its final issue, as did Remote Space. We got a new Image title called Knights vs Samurai, so I had to get it! Plus I didn’t realize that it was written by actor David Dastmalchian! Ahoska’s season 1 comicization continued. I wonder what’s going on with Peter in that ASM cover. Venom War continued. I think this annual is the final issue in the Infinity Watch, though, I’m not sure. And the X-titles continued.

And of course here are the DSTLRY issues from this week that couldn’t fit on the bed.

Always happy to see a Haley Leirix cover! And this is part of a set. And of course the next Nicola Scott cover

The main cover has a seemingly fully demon Raven, so I had to get another copy of that! And the other cover is by the wonderful Stjepan Šejić!

Look at this Acuña cover of Batwoman! I thought it was a Dan Mora when I first saw it.

Each week the variants for this Zatanna book are just amazing.

Just wonderful!

The next variants for Task Force VII. The penultimate connecting grid cover for the event covers! But I didn’t notice Dreamer on there, so I’m waiting on another copy of this variant. And look at the details in this Rahzzah cover! He’s such a fantastic artist.

I mean look at this!

Taurin Clarke did such a great job on this cover! And I actually did read through the issue before taking the photo since I knew it would be going away. It was a fun story. And of coourse I had to get this photo cover of the 15th Doctor. Ok, this Hercules cover shows probably one of my favorite scenes in the movie. The art and animation in that scene with all the hundreds of hydra heads is just perfect. So, when I saw that scene on this cover i jumped to add it to my list. The last Andolfo cover for Purr Evil is quite cool. Nott only was I curious about the knight vs Samurai story, look at that cover! And It’s been a while since there’s been a Jen Bartel cover, though that’s because she was unfairly paid for some of her last coves for Marvel and she decided to stop working for those who wouldn’t pay her fairly, so that makes sense.

The next Ahsoka covers! There are a couple more, but I’ll have to wait to find them elsewhere.

The next Gist variant for Werewolf by Night. Had to get this cover with Sabretooth on it! And I love this design for Jubilee! Can’t wait to get to seeing it on the page eventually.

I said it at the start of this NYX run, there weren’t enough Kamala variants, and we get a Leirix cover! And also a virgin variant of it too, but I’m waiting on that in the mail. And look at Laura on that other variant! Such detail on her and in the foreground.

The next DSTLRY covers!

This is a new title from DSTLRY. They even have a Red Band version of the issue!

Such great wraparound, as always!

This is such a funny meta cover! They have cover gallery issues, but I still want them to go cover books with the full length of the images as the book dimensions. A hardcover of them all at the correct length!

September 18, 2024

Oh yeah, last weekend I was at Baltimore Comic Con and got to meet a few comic book artists and writers! It was great!

Also, pssst, this is post 616! (IYKYK)

Another two weeks of massive piles of comics. My wallet hates me very much! Absolute Power continued. Clark and Zatanna had an adventure. We got a multiversal team-up of WB owned characters in the Multiversus miniseries. Infinity Watch continued. Spirits of Vengeance got a new miniseries. Hyperion stops by the Avengers. Darth Vader’s run ended with this last 50th issue before the next runs of Star Wars titles starts. Venom War continued. Deathlok got a special commemorating his 50th anniversary (though J. August Richards didn’t get an AOS variant cover, and I think that’s ridiculous.) And Dazzler got a new run.

Variants for this Catwoman issue. Wonderful as always!

It’s so cool that I can say that I’ve now met Rose Besch! She was a delight and I got some issues signed and sent off t be slabbed. I really like this cover of these three.

Superboy got a one-shot special as part of Absolute Power and this was my favorite variant of the issue. Foils are fun!

These are just gorgeous Zatanna covers. I mean look at them! Sweeney Boo and W. Scott Forbes respectively did amazing jobs! And of course Nicola Scott doing these legacy covers are wonderful.

I’m still not sure If I want these in their artist collections or character covers for Zatanna.

More Nicola Scott brilliance. And Cassie looking great by Artgerm.

Every single Artgerm is amazing.

I just really enjoyed seeing all these characters on one cover. Look at them all!

I’m not sure I’ll keep getting these covers, but for now, I enjoy them. And it was nice to see Rose on a cover from this universe.

I don’t get World’s Finest often, but sometimes they bring it on the covers game.

The main cover having Eclipso on it looking so powerful was great to see! And I always enjoy seeing Jessica Cruz on a cover, especially when it’s a Hispanic Heritage Month cover!

Derrick Chew did a glorious job on this Kushala cover! Sometimes I think his work is Artgerm, haha.

The next Ultimate X-Men covers! Though, not all of them this time, I’ll have to search for the other two online. That last Momoko one in this image is just amazing. I think it may even be one of my top Momoko covers, and that’s saying a lot. I may have to get another copy of it to get slabbed.

Even though the main cover isn’t a connecting cover with Star Wars 50, I still will display them together. I’m still very behind, but can’t wait to get to the end of this run.

The Dazzler covers! There were other covers too, but I liked these the best.

I really love this foil cover by Kaare Andrews. It gives off Jim Lee vibes. And we got a window shades cover! And of course like some of the X-titles, a blank variant.

Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story (September 21 and 24, 2024)

September 24, 2024

That was such an amazing feature to watch. As I said before in my social media posts, I knew bits and pieces of what happened to him, but never most of these other things I learned today.

I loved seeing so much footage from home movies throughout this. It went back and forth from before to after the spinal accident as it went.

He was such a wonderful person in life. And even though he would say he wasn’t that person he played in his role as Clark/Superman, he certainly has been a figurative hero and a literal hero to billions of people around the world and will do so you decades and centuries beyond now, both thanks to his work as an actor and an activist (both before and free the accident). And his family will also continue to be a huge part in that activism as they continue that aspect of his legacy.

I still think he has been the best portrayal of Clark Kent/Superman that we’ve had in live-action on-screen. Tom Welling did a great job as Clark and a good job in one episode as Superman in Smallville. Tyler Hoechlin has been doing a great job as both roles on the CW during the past few years too. Henry Cavill just had the bad luck of bad writing and barely any character development or screen time to really tans out as either role. I believe he would have been amazing with the correct version of those things. And we’ll have to see next year what David Corenswet will bring to the icon role.

I am so grateful that Christopher Reeve was cast in the role and for him as a person to exist. He will forever be remembered for so many aspects of his life, and we love him for so many of them.

Happy 72nd Birthday, and thank you for so much. ❤️💙💛

September 11, 2024

I guess things are looking up for Billy Batson. While things aren’t going great in Absolute Power. Primer’s second run got it’s last issue. Leonardo got Dark Leo special. Peter and Tombstone have words. The Venom War rages on. This Star Wars run (taking place between Episodes V and VI) has come to it’s end with this 50th issue. The next Star Wars runs (or at least some specials) will take place after episode VI in the lead-up to the Battle of Jakku. The Avengers got another run on Avengers Assemble. Wolverine got a new run in the new X-Men era. and DSTLRY gave us new title called Time Waits, and a cover gallery for Somna.

I got this cover because it’s looks like a nice precursor of the Batman Beyond batsuit, even though I know it’s a Nightwing suit.

Fun covers all around! Though I didn’t get that first variant because of Godzilla, I got it for Galactus, Godzilla was just an added bonus.

Love these Disney/Marvel covers as you know, and the Meinerding covers!

Love these! Though the min cover of this and Vader 50 aren’t connecting, I will still like them together when I get Vader 50. And of course the connecting cover for them both looks great.

Such fantastic Wolverine covers!

Love the negative space cover so much!
